1993 - 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Taken from a photocopy of the programme for the 30th Anniversary concert. The leader then was Dick Whittingham.

The photocopy includes some photos of the orchestra. Sadly, their quality is not really good enough for them to be reproduced individually here. There is one photo that shows a recognisable face in side view. It is of Freddie Wells on the drums.

The programme shows that for the 30th anniversary the orchestra had 20 players and one leader. Jimmy Skidmore was a guest tenor sax player. The vocalist was Ed Taylor.

There were five trumpet players: Bob Cutting, John Cook, Brian Sapwell, Ray Martin and James Marsh.
The saxophone players were: Ben Turner, John Murray, Neil Moffat, Geoff Scott and Peter Wright.
The trombone players were: Gordon Rushton, Andy Butcher, Duncan Brown, Paul Smith and Andrew Long.
The rhythm section consisted of: Ray Hand on piano, Pete Dixon on guitar, Arthur Mead on bass guitar and Freddie Wells on drums.

I have been told that Eddie Harvey attended the concert. The music played then included 18 numbers that would be in most big band repertoires and 8 numbers which were Eddie Harvey arrangements:-
Noddy In Jazzland, Close Your Eyes, It's All Up With I, Only For Men, Stompy Jones, Daydream, Frankie And Johnny, and For Dancers Only.
